At my beauty salon in Maghull, the most common question on a new booking is a simple one. Should it be a half leg or full leg wax? Many women aren’t sure, and some book the wrong one because they feel awkward asking. So here’s how I’d help you decide, especially now that the tights are coming back out.
Half Leg or Full Leg Wax – Where to Start
A half leg wax usually means the lower legs, from the ankle up to the knee. A full leg wax carries on up over the thighs. That sounds obvious. However, the right choice depends far more on your hair and your plans than on the name of the treatment.
I’ve been waxing legs since 1999, and I use the Lycon waxing system. So I’ve seen every kind of leg hair, from barely-there blonde down to thick dark regrowth. The answer really does vary from woman to woman.
Lower Legs Versus Thighs
For most women, lower leg hair is the part that bothers them. It’s thicker, darker and it shows the moment you wear a skirt or cropped trousers. Because of that, many of my clients are perfectly happy with a half leg wax all year round.
Thigh hair is often a different story. It tends to be finer and lighter, and some women barely notice it. Others find it darker than they’d like, especially at the back of the thigh or near the knee. So I always ask you to look honestly at your own thighs before deciding.
Why Thigh Hair Can Feel Different
Because thigh hair is often finer, waxing it can feel gentler than you’d expect. In my experience, many women are pleasantly surprised. That said, the skin on the inner thigh is softer and can feel a little more sensitive.
I always test the wax temperature first, and I support the skin as the wax comes off. In practice, that makes a real difference on the thighs, where the skin moves more. If any area feels uncomfortable, just tell me and I’ll slow down.
Holidays and Swimming
If you have a winter sun holiday coming up, a full leg wax usually makes more sense. Swimsuits show the thighs, and a smooth finish all the way up feels much more relaxed by the pool. Similarly, if you swim regularly at a local pool, you might want full legs most of the year.
On the other hand, if your autumn is all jeans, boots and tights, a half leg wax may be all you need. Then you can switch to full legs again before a trip. That flexibility suits plenty of my clients.
Think about your autumn calendar too. For example, a Christmas party dress, a spa day with friends or a family wedding might change your mind. So when deciding between a half leg or full leg wax, look a few weeks ahead rather than just at this week. Then book the version that matches what your legs will actually be doing.
Timing Your Wax Around Regrowth
Leg waxing results last up to around four weeks, depending on your hair growth cycle. Everyone’s hair grows at its own pace, so some women find they can stretch it a little longer. Others notice regrowth sooner.
Try not to shave between appointments, because the wax needs some length to grip. If you’d like to understand the cycle in more detail, I’ve written about leg waxing as tights season begins. In short, booking regularly gives smoother results than waxing once in a while.
Adding a Bikini Line
Many women who choose full legs also add a bikini line in the same visit. It makes sense, because it’s simply the next area up from the thighs. If you’re booking a half leg or full leg wax before a holiday, it’s worth considering both together. Just mention it when you book, so I can allow enough time.
If you’re nervous about it, that’s fine too. You can start with a tidy bikini line and decide on anything more next time.
The Cost Question
Naturally, many women want to know the difference in cost before they decide. I don’t list prices on my blog, because I’d rather talk it through. So just ring me, tell me what you’re thinking, and I’ll explain the options honestly. A booking fee applies when you book, so ask about that at the same time.
I’ll never push you towards full legs if half legs suit you. Honestly, a happy regular client matters more to me than an upgrade.
When I Won’t Wax Your Legs
There are times when I’ll say not today. I won’t wax broken, sunburnt or sore skin. So if you’ve caught the sun on a late holiday, or your legs are scratched from the garden, we’ll wait. Also, please mention any skin condition or medication before your appointment.
My Honest Suggestion
If you’re still unsure, start with a half leg wax. Then take a proper look at your thighs at home over the next few weeks. Many women realise they’re happy as they are. Others decide they’d like full legs next time, which is easy to arrange. Either way, choosing a half leg or full leg wax isn’t a decision you’re stuck with.
You can read more about the treatment on my leg waxing Liverpool page. It explains how I work and what to expect afterwards.
Book Your Leg Wax in Maghull
I’m the only therapist at the salon, so you’ll see me every visit. That means I learn how your hair grows and can suggest the right timing for you. Clients come from Lydiate, Aintree, Formby and Ormskirk, often fitting a wax around the school run.
To book, or simply to ask which suits you, call me on 0151 909 6116 or contact us. I’m always happy to talk it through.
