Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Cellulite

Nearly all of us have it, yet there are many myths about cellulite and what works to get rid of it. Here is a guide with everything you ever wanted to know about cellulite.

Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Cellulite

Beauty standards are always evolving but one of the most common goals is still to get rid of cellulite. The truth is, it’s totally normal. So why do we spending so much time and money trying to treat it?

Almost all women have it

Cellulite is really common, affecting up to 90 percent of women. It also affects approximately 10 percent of men. Cellulite is not just fat, it’s caused by fibrous tethers that run through the fat and pull on the skin, creating dimples.

It’s down to DNA

The reason only 10 percent of men have cellulite but most women do get it is because of the way our bodies are built. Male connective tissue is different to women’s. Fat cells respond differently to oestrogen and so men’s connective tissue is more tightly formed. Some women get cellulite on their arms and stomach and other only on their butt and thighs. That’s down to genetics too.

It’s only loosely related to weight

Losing weight is – believe it or not – not the best way to get rid of cellulite. If you are over your recommended BMI then weight loss may help, but if you are at a healthy body weight, weight loss will not improve cellulite.

Fit women have it, too

It’s true that exercise has an effect on cellulite, but it’s not a cure-all. Strength, not cardio is the key as muscle mass tightens up the muscles. The cellulite will still be there – but less obvious.
