Y2K Nails

You may think it was Instagram that sparked the golden age of manicures. But in fact, the new millennium moved nail art on from the late-90s look of frosted polish and French manicures to become more adventurous. Read our Beauty by Ruth article in full to find out more about Y2K Nails…

Y2K Nails

The biggest nail trends of 2021 are similar to those of 2001. Here are some examples.

Classic French Mani

The French manicure was the go-to look for celebs like Jennifer Lopez before it faded into obscurity. With almond or round nails, it looks great by effectively elongating your hands.

Frosted Nail Polish

This Y2K-era trend is easy to do when you don’t have time for extensive nail art. It looks best on short, natural nails.

Acrylics

Long acrylics were once a celebrity favourite, with everyone from Pink to Missy Elliott sporting the look. Natural, short nails were the look of the 2010s, but longer nails have had a resurgence.

Black Nail Polish

This punk staple was worn by everyone from Jessica Simpson to Lauren Conrad. To keep it looking shiny for as long as possible, add a top coat every couple of days.

White Nails

If you spent your school years painting Tipp-Ex on your nails, you’ll love this mani shade. It is also a good base for nail art.

Red Nails

Gwen Stefani’s vintage phase brought red lipstick and nails into fashion. It never really went away.

Crystal Manicures

Bedazzling everything was big in the 2000s, and nails were no exception.

Reverse French Tips

The reverse French with clear tips came onto the scene in the early 2000s, and now it’s one of the most requested nail looks.
